BOX13 resident artists Cinthia Gomez and Yma Luis are presenting an exhibition with Almendra Castillo in the Cecily E. Horton gallery at Lawndale Art Center in Houston from January 22, 2016 – February 27, 2016. Cinthia Gomez and Yma Luis will be giving artist talks at 6 p.m. on the evening of the 22nd.
All three artists in the show, titled Satellite, have created a single body of work based upon information gained from a series of letters that describe each artist’s sculpture before passing the letter to the next artist. The work is representative of a game of telephone made tactile through sculpture and the transmission of information between the artists.
The artists’ state:
“we are in a way functioning as blind satellites relying on our perceived sense of understanding (of one another) and ability to interpret.”
The exhibition opens with a reception at Lawndale Art Center Houston from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. on January 22, 2016. The show will run until February 27, 2016.
