Access to funding for the arts in Houston (a mix of private wealth, foundations, and public funding) has not historically supported equitable outcomes. The arts sector in Houston has grown, but funding has not kept up with the growth to provide young artists and cultural workers with the opportunities needed to thrive.

Building a Culture of Arts Advocacy in Houston is a series of workshops designed to empower folks like you to use your voices and become active participants in co-creating an arts-filled city. This program engenders courage, creativity, accountability, and know-how through active participation and group reflection.

Led by Liyen Chong, a core organizer at Arts Accountability Houston (AAH), this workshop draws from the successes AAH achieved in building a grassroots-led coalition and advocating for artists and small to mid-sized arts organizations at the local level.

In Building a Culture of Arts Advocacy in Houston: #1 Finding Your Voice, participants will develop an advanced understanding of how creativity and art can flourish, practice expressing grief or anger in ways that advance their advocacy agenda, and learn self-care in this space.
