Early text-based artists helped create a shift towards new systems that gave viewers visual engagement with verbally expressed ideas. WORDPLAY aims to examine a current generations’ interest in text and semiotics.

WORDPLAY looks at the enigmatic complexities of language and text within the works of ten Houston based artists who are creating in an era characterized by ever increasing modes of communication and a constant onslaught of information. The works encompass a variety of themes that exist as statement and narrative in literary and poetic forms.

WORDPLAY will feature new works by Logan Sebastian Beck, Harry Dearing III, David Feil,Sebastian ForrayJorge Galvan, Matthew Gorgol, Jordan Johnson, Lillie Monstrum, Darcy Rosenberger, and Sapphire Williams.

Sapphire Williams, emerging artist and curator, was born in Nassau, Bahamas and currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. Her work has been exhibited at Lawndale Art Center, Skydive Art Space, Blaffer Art Museum, Lone Star Studios, G Gallery, Project Row Houses, and Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. Sapphire is currently working on a 2014 curatorial project with Fresh Arts in Houston, TX.
