Artist Statement:
My artwork stands as a testament to the importance of preserving culture, the environment, and memories. I encapsulate in order to accomplish emotional expression and to immortalize personal experiences. I am heavily influenced by the circular economy, which transforms my paintings into repurposed multi-layered constructions. In the spirit of recycling, my work is primarily sourced by using items within my surroundings or bought second-hand.
I craft with a blend of vibrant hues interspersed with found objects, painted plaster, needlework, and salvaged textiles. When I build a piece, I create a composition of textural layers that take the shape of repetitive lines, organic shapes, or abstract expressionism.
Preserving culture processes the questions I have about my family origins. It examines the relationship I have with my mother’s hometown and inherited cycles such as generational trauma or congenital disorders.
