BOX 13 ArtSpace is pleased to present four new exhibitions opening Friday, February 28, 2025, 6pm to 9pm.

BOX 13 is pleased to present On the Backroads, a survey of works by Jonas Criscoe exploring the aesthetics of detritus and decay through the lens of surface, material and form. It looks to the rural backroads of Texas for inspiration, the forgotten towns, the faded facades of old buildings and the natural cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. In the Back BOX gallery we show artist Alexandria Canchola. Their work, Fruits of Their Labor, explores the dynamic contrast between two extraordinary women who shaped them: their Cuban grandmother and their Mexican-American aunt, Aunt Carrie. By examining distinct yet interconnected lives, this body of work illuminates how these experiences informs their understanding of identity, resilience, and a woman’s place in the world. In the Window BOX gallery, artist Cassie Gnehm presents Over the Shoulder, Hands on Hips, a collection of paintings that weaves together fragments of the female figure from contemporary culture and classical art history. Finally, Mateo Gutiérrez presents several large scale hand-embroidered artworks depicting images of people coming across the US-Mexico border juxtaposed with images of people in the aftermath of shootings. The title of the exhibition is It’s the End of the World As We Know It, and will be presented in the Upstairs Box at BOX 13 ArtSpace.

The exhibitions continue through March 29, 2025. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday February 28, 2025, 6pm to 9pm at BOX 13 ArtSpace, 6700 Harrisburg, Houston, TX 77011.
